Can anyone tell me what this means? I came across it in this quote: "If a favorite name is missing from my list, attribute the lack, not to an invidious distinction, but causa pro metrica." That's from a tribute to Frederic G. Cassidy on the DARE site.
Amazingly, it's more or less a Googlewhack, as a search brings up only that tribute.

I found "pro metrica" in a context that suggests it can mean "poet". Therefore, "causa pro metrica" might mean "poetic license".

That makes sense, "causa pro metrica" could mean, "left out because of meter", meaning the poet left out specific information so that the poem would scan correctly.
